WHAT TO EXPECT

Getting to Know You

Any resident of Northern Nevada or the Lake Tahoe Basin looking to find (and train for) a suitable career with a livable wage is encouraged to call one of our regional offices. We invest in those who are committed to completing expert-led training and focus on finding meaningful employment, so that you can leave our programs debt-free.

In order to get the most out of your experience with us, you must have a passion for starting your meaningful career, a desire to become self-sufficient and a determination to acquire the skills needed for a career. Your career training coordinator will lead you through the process, which includes:

  • Brief eligibility and suitability conversation
  • Pre-enrollment information session to review JOIN’s services, roles and expectations.
  • Survey of your skills, competencies and natural abilities related to the workforce
  • Selection of appropriate training courses and/or work experience opportunities based on your chosen career field and your individual employment plan
CAREER EXPLORATION

Find the Career for You

We will take you through a comprehensive career exploration evaluating your abilities, interests and aptitudes to put you on the most successful career path possible. We start with three assessments, each part of the COPSystem.

Measure Your Values

The Career Orientation Placement and Evaluation Survey (COPES) measures personal values in the workplace. Aligning your values with your career is an important predictor of occupational success and satisfaction.

Explore Your Interests

The Career Occupational Preference System Interest Inventory (COPS) will examine interest in different career options. This assessment features career and educational planning, including lists of suggested activities to gain experience.

Link Your Abilities

The Career Ability Placement Survey (CAPS) helps examinees relate their current abilities and skills to career clusters. Ability scores are interpreted in terms of examinees’ abilities relative to others at the same educational level.

WHAT OUR GRADUATES SAY

“After a year and a half, I lost my job and I was unemployed for five months. That’s a really long time when you’re a single mom. So I went and saw Julie at JOIN and she had a fabulous program.”
