HISTORY

Job Opportunities in Nevada (JOIN, Inc.) is a nonprofit agency, 501 (c)(3), incorporated in June of 1996. As a nonprofit and under previous incarnations, (Northern Nevada Job Training Agency from 1972 – 1984, and JOIN from 1985 – 1996), JOIN has provided employment and training programs in each of the thirteen northern Nevada counties. Branch offices are currently located in Carson City, Elko, Ely, Fallon, Reno, Sparks and Winnemucca, with the Administrative Office located in Reno. Several offices serve multiple counties. All branches except Ely and Winnemucca are located in Nevada JobConnect Centers.

JOIN has a base of approximately 40 employees and is overseen by a Board of Directors which provides general direction of the organization through the supervision and direction of an Executive Director. The Executive Director is assisted in the administration of JOIN, Inc. by a Program Coordinator, a Personnel and Administration Specialist, a Finance Manager, and a Senior Account Clerk. Each branch office has a Branch Manager who reports directly to the Executive Director.

The organization has been the main service provider and grant recipient of federal funding for employment and training programs for Nevadaworks (the northern Nevada Workforce Investment Board), with funds from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). This funding is used to create links among employers, community organizations, and educational institutions, which help companies meet employment needs. In addition to WIA, JOIN contracts with the Division of Child and Family Services, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Juvenile Justice Commission and the Humboldt County School District.
